The name of the food literally means “farmer’s sausage”, and it was often made by farmers from the animals they raised. Today it’s a favourite for any Braai / BBQ.
The standard meats used to make boerewors are beef & pork . They are then mixed with spek, which essentially is diced pork or beef fat to ensure a juicy and succulent sausage.
